I tend to use webmin for samba fileshare from Ubuntu with Windows, does that work? Is there a better option like nextcloud?

I would suggest you try out ownCloud. It comes really close, with a few issues.

I prefer freemium options like Google drive because i cannot pay the subscriptions.

Try out Seafile, an open source and affordable alternative.

pCloud is free and works well for me. Maybe you should give it a try.
